Sardinia offers some of the best quality waves in the Mediterranean sea. Recently, I had the opportunity to explore and try the surf spots of Sinis area, in the province of Oristano.
Surfing: the spots in the Sinis area, Sardinia
For a long time, I have come to the Sinis peninsula because it offers some wonderful windsurfing spots, such as Funtana Meiga and Capo Mannu. But when the wind drops, there is often some perfect swell left, which it is really a shame not to exploit. In front of the west coast of Sardinia there is a lot of sea, and the mistral or the west wind raise waves that come from far away and that can have oceanic quality and period.
During my last trip to this wonderful island, in November 2024, I explored some surfing spots in this area of Sardinia, and, on the advice of a Sardinian guy, I also had the opportunity to try a really nice one: S'Archittu.
Let's list and describe them, starting from the South, with the clarification that, not having tried them all yet, I reserve the right to integrate the article with other information later.
The spots covered in this review are (see map below): San Giovanni Sinis, S'Arena Scoada, Putzu Idu, Minicapo, Capo Mannu, Sa Mesa Longa, S'Archittu. A little north of S'Archittu, there is also Santa Caterina di Pittinuri, where they tell us that you ride when the swell is big, because the waves in the bay come in reasonable size, but we have not yet explored it.

The waves at S'Archittu are for all tastes and levels. Click here for a slide gallery of photos taken at the spot.
The ones that rise on a rocky reef in the center of the bay, 100 meters from the shore, higher and reserved for experts; at 50 meters, they arrive smaller, but always clean and spaced, and suitable for intermediate/beginner surfers. A real playground for everyone, without substantial dangers. I tried the spot for the first time on November 23, 2024, and I was fascinated by it .... I will return as soon as possible.
If you have advice or suggestions, write them in the comments.
Life is a big wave. Fabio
