An easy walk in the Vila Valley, a side valley of the Pustertal, very rewarding from a landscape point of view, and which allows you to reach the magnificent Lercher Alm.

Trekking: Lercher Alm, Vila Valley

South Tyrol is not only the Sesto Dolomites, San Candido, or one of the most famous valleys. There are still lesser-known corners, therefore quieter, that are still worth exploring. One of these is the Vila Valley.

The Vila Valley starts from Percha, a village between Brunico and Valdaora, in Pustertal. It has a NNE - SSW orientation, and is located between the Anterselva Valley (Antholzer Tal) and the Aurina Valley (Ahrntal), without having the same length.

To begin the simple walk that we propose (see our map below), you must reach the village of Vila di Sopra (Oberwielenbach) by car or public transport. After passing the village and the bridge over the Rio di Vila, turn south again, where, a few hundred meters after the bridge, there is a convenient and large paid parking lot, along Via Plata (Via S. Nikolaus). Once you have parked your car and put on your hiking boots, you take the asphalt road that goes up towards NE (see signs for Lercher Alm, and our map), which soon becomes closed to traffic.

From the bridge before the parking lot, you could also take a dirt road on the right bank that goes up the valley in the first part and then rejoins the main path/road of the valley.

On the route, there is little to say from a technical point of view. In 45 minutes, and about 2.5 km, you reach the Lercher Alm, always walking comfortably on the wide service road that leads to the mountain huts in the valley.

A stop at the Lercher Alm is a must. The mountain hut is wonderful: a typical Tyrolean mountain pasture building, where you can taste local delicacies. We ate the legendary Kaisershmarren. To digest, you can continue a little up the valley which presents a pleasant and peaceful bucolic landscape. Time has stopped here.

In addition to walking to the Lercher Alm, from the indicated starting point, you can also reach the Gönneralm, or the unique Earth Pyramids of Perca, with slightly longer itineraries.

Enjoy your walk. Fabio
