Freeriding is one of the most popular windsurfing disciplines. We therefore believe to do something useful by offering you a summary of the test results on the 2018 freeride boards, conducted by the famous French magazine Windmag.

Windsurf, test: 2018 Freeride boards

As always, we invite you to buy the magazine, to be able to deepen all the results of the accurate tests carried out by the team of collaborators. For a comparison with the test results of the 2017 freeride boards, we refer you to the article we published last year. Also read the article on 2018 wave boards.

Seven models tested, with volumes of around 120 liters. The table below summarizes their main technical characteristics, and summarizes the results of the tests conducted. Below, we mention the impressions that emerged in the tests.

The Exocet X-Move 119 is addressed to a passive windsurfer. Even if the guaranteed accelerations are lively, the board gives security thanks to an excellent speed control.

The RRD Firemove 120 is characterized by easy gliding and stability. If the Exocet prefers strong wind, the Firemove is more comfortable with light wind.

The Fanatic Gecko 120 has a wide range of use, from learning to unbridled freeriding. It has amazing gliding qualities. The economical version has an attractive price.

The Tabou Rocket 125 is even more docile than ever. It forgives the mistakes a lot, keeps its course perfectly, and the sea-hull contact gives you the feeling of flying on the velvet.

The Jp Magic Ride is a compact board. It is an easy board, aimed at a rider who wants to glide comfortably. It is the one that got the testers' choice.

The Patrick F-Ride offers a progressive and reassuring approach to gliding, with good control, and a feeling of reduced bulk.

The Novenove Performa is a freeride with almost racing performance, it has a good glide and above all it passes from rail to rail without effort. It is a board that will appeal to the dynamic freerider, who likes to feel the board alive underfoot.

Have a nice choice. Fabio Muriano
