PWA IWT Cold Hawai Youth World Cup and tour final 2023 in Klitmöller, Denmark
Intro: I met Mika and his father Martin on the beach of Xan Xurxo, Galicia, Spain, on summer 2022. Mika was training there, and looked to be already very skilled for his age. It was a real surprise and a pleasure to discover that he was the young rider who won the last 2023 PWA IWT Cold Hawai Event, in Denmark. We asked his father to tell us more about his success.
"Mika Henning GER-64, from Germany, is 12 years old. He is one of the new generation and a young gun. He is also known as Boarder-Mika on Youtube (www.youtube.com/boarder-mika) and Instagram. This year, he was able to start in the U13 group, with boys from 8-12 years old. These kids are the future and some impressive skills were on show in the heats! 12-year-old Mika Henning (FutureFly / EzzySails) beat 10 year old Anton Gobisch (Duotone / Duotone Sails) in the final of the Single Elimination! Later on in the Double Elimination Mika advanced against Liam Calo (Severne/ Severne) from Italy.
Both had a nice fight, the conditions were tricky in the heats with only light winds, while sometimes it was only possible to ride waves in the whitewaters. However, Mika was able to catch a wave on the outside and combine both front and backside turns to secure the victory of the final Youth World Cup.
With the victory, he earns 10.000 points where he is now on the top in the Ranking as a World Champion with another boy from Australia".
